VAISHNO DEVI TOUR

Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindus, which is positioned at an elevation of 5,200 ft in the Katra district. The shrine is a cave temple, dedicated to Goddess Shakti in the form of three natural rock formations, called the Pindis that represent the three goddesses. These are Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Kali and Goddess Saraswati and are positioned at a distance of 91 ft inside the cave.

The temple is located on Trikuta, a three-peaked mountain that is around 12 km from the base of the mountain. It is believed that the temple is nearly a million year old. The holy cave of Vaishno Devi is 98 ft long and has symbols of various Gods and Goddesses of Hindu mythology.

On the mouth of the cave, there is a rock symbol of Vakratunda Ganesha. Along with the Ganesha symbol, the symbols of Surabaya Dec and Chandler Dec are also carved in the temple.

Ardh Kuwari is a site of religious significance, popular for 15 foot long and narrow cave called Garbha Joon. It is 4,800 ft above sea level and is situated 4.5 km from Charan Paduka. Ardh Kuwari is a halfway point during the trek to the main shrine. It is believed that Goddess Durga hid herself from Bhairav Nath for nine months in this cave. When Bhairav Nath entered the cave, the Goddess made a new opening with her trident.

Bhairav Nath Temple is a located at a distance of 3 km from the holy cave. Dedicated to saint turned demon, Bhairav Nath, the temple is the last point of the pilgrimage. According to mythology, in his last breath Bhairav Nath repented for his unholy acts and for the same Goddess forgave him. The shrine of Bhairav Nath is situated atop a hill, which is approachable from Ardh Kuwari.

Vaishno Devi is open for pilgrims throughout the year, but the best time to undertake the journey is between the months of March and October. A lot of pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi between these months as the weather is cool and pleasant, but maximum visitors plan their trip during the Navratras.

During winter, remember to bring heavy woollens, wind-cheaters, caps and gloves, although blankets are available for free during the climb. 4 It is also recommended that you wear comfortable shoes during the climb.
